This 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga is the perfect adventure for travelers who want to discover the beauty of southern Morocco and experience the wild Sahara dunes far away from the crowds. The journey is a mix of mountain landscapes, historical kasbahs, palm-filled valleys, and a night under the stars in the vast Sahara desert.
Our adventure begins in Marrakech. We will drive through the magical High Atlas Mountains and the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, the scenery changes from green valleys and Berber villages to arid landscapes, as you get closer to the town of Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa” given its film studios and the impressive Kasbah of Taourirt. From there, the route continues through the Draa Valley, famous for its captivating palm groves and ancient fortified villages near Agdz, before arriving in Zagora where we will spend the night.
On the second day, the tour continues deeper into the Sahara Desert. After a stop in Tamegroute, known for its green pottery and historic Quranic library, we will drive through Tagounite and finally reach M’hamid, the last village before the desert. From there, our adventure continues off-road across rocky plains and sandy tracks until we arrive at the remote Erg Chigaga dunes. Rising up to 300 meters high and stretching for 40 kilometers, these desert dunes offer one of the most breathtaking desert landscapes in Morocco. Once there, we will enjoy a camel ride into the dunes for a magical sunset before calling a night in a traditional luxury desert camp with local food, music, and a sky full of stars.
On the third day, we will start off with a spectacular sunrise over the dunes, followed by a delicious breakfast in camp. As we leaving Erg Chigaga, we will cross the vast wilderness of Iriqui National Park and the seasonal lake of Iriqui, a unique desert landscape. The journey carries on to Taznakht, a small Berber town famous for its handwoven carpets, where you can learn about traditional weaving techniques. By the afternoon, we will reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic Kasbahs with its mudbrick architecture and fortified towers, it has been the backdrop for many films and TV series. We will spend the night in a guesthouse overlooking this historic village.
On the last day of our 4-day tour, we will explore Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, wander through its narrow alleys and climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding valley. After our visit, we will journey back to Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains, with a few stops to enjoy the stunning scenery. By late afternoon, we will arrive in Marrakech, where your unforgettable 4-day Sahara desert adventure comes to an end.

The highlight was definitely riding camels into the dunes at sunset. It felt timeless, like stepping into another world.
I was worried about comfort, but the hotels and desert camp were top-notch. Air-conditioning and private bathrooms made a big difference.
The journey through the Atlas Mountains was as impressive as the desert itself. Nature lovers will be blown away.
The local music at the campfire was my favorite part. It felt authentic, not staged for tourists.
The organization was flawless. Everything happened on time, yet we felt relaxed the whole way.
