Why Visit Ourika valley ?

Ourika Valley is one of the most beautiful and captivating destinations near Marrakech. It’s a perfect place to reconnect with yourself down, breathe fresh air, and see a different side of Morocco.

Excursion Itinerary: Marrakech to Ourika Valley

Our 1-day excursion begins in the morning from Marrakech. We are going to drive south through the Haouz plains. The city quickly fades away, as we dive into a whole new green landscape of red earth, olive groves, and stone houses by the hills. The air gets cooler and fresher, as we climb into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

On the way there, we could stop at a women’s argan oil cooperative. Here, you’ll learn about the process of making argan oil  by hand. You’ll also learn about its many uses, both in cooking and cosmetics, and try a few samples. These cooperatives help support rural women and empowers them.
As we drive further, a lot of small Berber villages appear by the side of the road with their mud-brick houses blending into the mountainside. If you like, we could stop for a short visit to a local Berber family, enjoy a glass of Moroccan mint tea and learn about their way of life.

The Village of Setti Fatma & the Seven Waterfalls

We will also carry on deeper into the valley until we reach the charming village of Setti Fatma surrounded by towering cliffs and fruit orchards. This small village is the gateway to the famous seven waterfalls, which are one of the main highlights of the valley.

With the help of a local mountain guide, we will begin a short hike through rocky paths and trails to get to the waterfalls. The first waterfall is easy to reach, and for those who want more adventure, the path continues uphill to the higher waterfalls. The hike is moderate in difficulty — you don’t need to be an expert hiker, but good walking shoes are highly recommended. As you climb, you’ll get to see some spectacular views of the valley below, along with the sound of water and birds singing.

For those who prefer to relax, Setti Fatma itself is a pleasant place to chill, enjoy a cup of tea by the river and explore the small local shops.

Lunch by the River

After our hike and our lovely adventure in the High Atlas Mountains , it’s time to relax and reward ourselves with a  traditional Moroccan lunch in a beautiful riverside restaurant. In fact, many restaurants in the valley have tables placed right next to, or even inside, the shallow river, letting you dip your feet in the cool water and enjoy your meal. Expect purely Moroccan dishes like vegetable tagine, grilled meats, fresh bread, and seasonal fruits — always served with a glass of refreshing mint tea.

The peaceful sounds of the river, along with the natural setting, make this one of the most relaxing parts of the day.
