We will start our adventure in Marrakech, drive through the High Atlas Mountains and visit Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley before arriving in Tamegroute. Next, we will continue to Mhamid El Ghizlane and the dunes of Erg Chigaga, where you’ll enjoy a camel ride, sunset views, and a night under the stars in a luxury desert camp. On the final day, we will drive via Foum Zguid and visit the UNESCO site of Ait Benhaddou, before returning to Marrakech.
Our journey kicks off from Marrakech. We will drive across the High Atlas Mountains & Tizi n’Tichka pass. As we go, we will enjoy the breathtaking views of valleys, Berber villages, and winding mountain roads all the way to Ouarzazate, often called the “little hollywood of Africa”. Ouarzazate is famous for its Kasbahs and film studios. After a short visit, we will carry on driving south along the Draa Valley, known for its palm groves. By late afternoon, we will reach Tamegroute, a calm village known for its traditional green pottery and one of Morocco’s oldest libraries. We will call it a night there in Tamegroute.
After a delicious breakfast, our adventure continues deeper into the Sahara desert of Zagora ( Erg Chigaga dunes). On the way, we will pass through Tagounite and reach Mhamid El Ghizlane, the last town before the endless dunes of the Sahara. Once there, we will switch our vehicle to a 4×4 vehicle to drive off-road across the rocky desert and sand plains all the way to the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga, one of Morocco’s largest dune fields. Once there, we will Witness the golden sands stretching as far as the eye can see. In the evening, we will enjoy a camel ride, watch the sunset over the dunes, and experience a magical night under the stars at a desert camp with traditional music.
We will wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes before leaving Erg Chigaga dunes. We will drive through the vast desert landscapes and cross the dry lake of Iriqui near Foum Zguid. Next, we will continue our journey through dramatic desert scenery all the way to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, a giant fortified Ksar used as a backdrop for many famous films. After exploring the kasbah, we will travel back to Marrakech. Once in Marrakech, our 3-day desert adventure from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga dunes concludes.
It usually takes one hour or one hour and a half and it is fun experience, as you can also take pictures.
There is no specific outfit for that; however, make sure you wear comfortable clothing and a scarf, as the sun could be a little too hot.
Yes, standard and luxury desert camps are super comfortable. Both include private tents with private bathrooms and delicious local Moroccan meals
