This unique and brand new 4-day desert tour itinerary combines the wild and untouched dunes of Erg Chigaga with the majestic and popular dunes of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi). Starting from Marrakech, we will cross the High Atlas Mountains, explore the ancient kasbahs and valleys, discover hidden Berber villages, and experience two different Sahara deserts in Morocco.
We will leave Marrakech in the morning, drive across the winding High Atlas Mountains and the enchanting Tizi n’Tichka Pass. On the way, we will stop to admire panoramic views, Berber villages, and valleys. Then, we will continue via Ouarzazate and the palm-filled Draa Valley before reaching Zagora, the gateway to the desert. Dinner and overnight in a riad/hotel.
After our breakfast at the hotel/ Riad, we will visit Tamegroute, a village famous for its traditional pottery workshops and ancient library. Then, we will continue to Mhamid, the last village before the Sahara. We will Switch to 4×4 vehicles and drive off-road across the stony desert, dunes, and dry riverbeds until we reach the remote Erg Chigaga dunes. Once there, we will enjoy a camel ride, sunset over the vast dunes, dinner, and overnight in a desert camp.
We will wake up early to admire the sunrise over Erg Chigaga. After breakfast, we will drive across the Lake Iriki (a seasonal lake) and desert trails to Foum Zguid. Next, we will continue via Alnif all the way to Rissani, once a major trading post for caravans. We will arrive in Merzouga by afternoon, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise dramatically. Even though it was only four days, the itinerary felt rich and complete. It didn’t feel rushed, and we experienced so much. A perfect balance of adventure and relaxation.
Our driver Hassan was not just a guide, he became a friend. He was funny, caring, and always made sure we were comfortable. That personal connection made the trip so much better.
The stop at Rissani market was fascinating. The atmosphere was so different from Marrakech, and it felt authentic and full of history. I’m glad it was part of the itinerary.
Professional from start to finish. The communication before the tour was clear, the driving was safe, and the overall service exceeded expectations.
Crossing Lake Iriki in the 4×4 felt like being on another planet. The emptiness was striking, and the ride was exciting. It gave me a real sense of adventure.
