Once in the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, we will enjoy the magical desert scenery, camel trekking, and calm nights under the stars in a luxury Desert camp.
Our 4-day tour begins early in the morning from Marrakech city. We will drive through the High Atlas Mountains with its incredible panoramic views and many Berber villages. On the way, we will make a few stops. First, we will visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has appeared in movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring this historic Kasbah, our journey continues to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” and home to some of Morocco’s largest film studios. From there, we will pass through Skoura Oasis and the Valley of Roses in Kelaat M’gouna before arriving in the Dades Valley. Dades Valley is famous for its picturesque rock formations. Our overnight stay will be in a traditional riad or hotel in the valley.
After breakfast, our trip continues toward the spectacular Todra Gorges with its towering cliffs. It is one of Morocco’s most impressive canyons. Here, we could take a short walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the gorges. The road then takes us through palm groves and Berber villages all the way to Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and semi-desert scenery. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Merzouga. Our camels will be there waiting to pick us up for a ride into the Sahara to enjoy the sunset. In the evening, we will be in a desert camp, enjoying traditional Berber music, local food, and the magic of the starry Sahara sky.
We will wake up to watch the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes of Merzouga, such an unforgettable view. After breakfast at the Desert camp, we will begin our journey towards Rissani, a historical town famous for its old caravan routes and a lively traditional souk. From there, we will travel through Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest palm valley all the way to Ouarzazate, where we will spend the night in a comfortable hotel or riad.
On the final day of our 4-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, we will enjoy our breakfast, visit Atlas Film Studios and explore more of Ouarzazate. The road back to Marrakech once again cross the High Atlas Mountains before our arrival in Marrakech in the evening. Marrakech marks the end of our 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert tour.
