Are you looking for an unforgettable desert adventure from Marrakech? Our 2-day desert tour to Merzouga is the perfect way to experience Morocco’s diverse landscape, majestic kasbahs, and the golden Sahara dunes.
On the first day of 2-day desert adventure, our journey begins in the morning from the lively city of Marrakech. As we drive further away from Marrakech, we will be crossing the High Atlas Mountains viaTizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 meters above sea level). We will make a few stops to enjoy the panoramic views and take photos. As we get closer to Ouarzazate, we will drop by the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most popular landmarks. It is an ancient fortified village; it has been the backdrop for many famous films, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We will have some time to explore its enchanting alleys and climb to the top for a stunning view as well as take pictures of that picturesque Kasbah. From there, we will continue to Ouarzazate, a small town with a peaceful atomosphere and then carry on driving towards the magical Todra Gorges. The dramatic cliffs of Todra gorges rise up to 300 meters and are a paradise for hikers, climbers and photographers, too. Later in the day, we will arrive in the vast Merzouga Desert. Here, we will take a camel ride and head over into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi to watch a breathtaking desert sunset and be dropped off at our Desert camp for the night. During evening time, we will have a seat around a big camp fire and enjoy a traditional Berber dinner and music.
On the second day, we will wake up early to enjoy the desert sunrise over the Saharan dunes. After breakfast, we will hit the road toward Marrakech, while taking a different route in order to explore more hidden gems along the way. Our first stop is going to be Rissani, a small desert town and a former capital of the Tafilalet region. It’s popular for its authentic souks and traditional lifestyle that reflects the area’s culture and the lifestyle of its people. After that, we will drive through Nkob, a quiet Berber village surrounded by palm groves and over 40 kasbahs. It is a perfect place to chill or go for a little picnic. Next, we are crossing the Draa Valley and the High Atlas Mountains once more, the landscapes changes again as we drive further, showing Morocco’s incredible diversity. By evening time, we will arrive in Marrakech, carrying with us memories of the Sahara Desert and its dunes as well as the Kasbahs we have seen.
